Provincial Response Level: CRITICAL
Community spread of COVID-19 is not contained and/or there are significant strains on our health care system. As of 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, the province of Manitoba moved to the Critical level (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System to halt COVID-19 transmission and protect Manitoba's most vulnerable citizens.
The new Critical (red) level restrictions will be in effect province wide and include:
• Social contacts must be reduced to your household only. Social gatherings are not permitted, and gatherings of more than 5 people from outside a single household will be subject to fines.
• Travel to and from northern Manitoba is restricted and non-essential travel is discouraged.
• Retail businesses listed as critical services, such as grocery stores and pharmacies, can remain open at 25 per cent capacity.
• Retail businesses not on the list are able to provide e-service, curbside pickup or delivery services.
• Other critical services can operate as set out under the public health orders.
• All personal service businesses, including hair salons, barbers and sites offering manicures, pedicures and other esthetic services, must close.
• Gyms and fitness centres must close.
• Religious and cultural gatherings must close or be provided virtually only.
• Restaurants must close to the public and may be open for delivery, drive-thru or takeout only.
• All recreational activities, sports facilities, casinos, museums, galleries, libraries, movie theatres and concert halls must close.
The actions being taken by Council, restricting public access to Town facilities, are intended to ensure the greatest success in slowing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting its residents.
These are unprecedented times and the Town is committed to ensuring the safety of its residents and employees. To that end we would ask that citizens follow the instructions of Manitoba Health and Health Canada in conducting their daily lives to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 which can be found on our website at http://www.townofbeausejour.ca/p/covid-19-coronavirus.
Closure of the Town of Beausejour Municipal Office & Facilities
On Friday October 30, 2020, Chief Provincial Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin set the pandemic response level to Restricted level (orange) for the Interlake–Eastern health regions on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System, effective today, Monday, November 2, 2020.
During these challenging and unprecedented times, the Town of Beausejour Administrative Office, the Public Works Offices, the Sun Gro Centre, the Brokenhead River Community Hall - with the exception of flu clinics, the Breach, the Pioneer Village Museum and the CPTC grounds will be closed to the public until further notice due to the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases. Furthermore, all Recreational programs will be suspended until further notice. We have made this decision as the safety of our residents, community and our employees continue to be our top priority. Council will re-assess the situation after a two-week period.
Our essential services continue to remain operational which include curbside garbage and recycling pickup, fire response, public works, water and wastewater services, animal control and by-law enforcement. Payments can be made by mailing in a cheque, using the drop-slot located at the back door of the Municipal Office (639 Park Avenue) or by paying online through your banking institution.
The Chief Provincial Public Health Officer urges Manitobans to not socialize with people from outside their household, to cut down the number of close contacts, and avoid closed-in or crowded spaces. In addition, they should focus on these fundamentals to help stop the spread of COVID-19: stay home if you are sick; wash/sanitize your hands and cover your cough; physically distance when you are with people outside your household; if you cannot physically distance, wear a mask to help reduce the risk to others or as required by public health orders.
At this time, it is more important than ever to continue to work as a community to have compassion for others, to take care of ourselves and to nourish our mental and physical health. We will continue to be strong as a Province, as a Municipality and most importantly as a Community.
